The Falcon D271 is a Grade 2 medium duty deadbolt with thumbturn operation and occupancy indicator function. It's designed for commercial and institutional applications where visual occupancy status is required.
2) How does the occupancy indicator function work?
The occupancy indicator shows red when locked from inside and green when unlocked. This visual indicator is typically used on restroom doors and privacy applications to show occupied/vacant status.
3) What door thickness does the D271 accommodate?
Standard Falcon deadbolts typically fit 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" door thickness. Verify specific door preparation requirements with manufacturer specifications before installation.
4) Is this deadbolt handed or reversible?
Most Falcon D271 models are field reversible for left or right hand doors. The latch and occupancy indicator can be adjusted during installation to match door swing direction.
5) What finishes are available for the D271?
Falcon typically offers standard finishes including satin chrome, polished brass, and oil rubbed bronze. Check product specifications for available finish options on this specific model.
6) What does Grade 2 rating mean?

7) Does this lock meet fire door requirements?
Check manufacturer listings for fire door compatibility. Some Falcon deadbolts are listed for fire rated assemblies, but verify specific model certifications for your application.
8) What tools are needed for installation?
Standard installation requires drill, hole saw bits (2-1/8" and 1" typically), screwdrivers, and chisel. Follow manufacturer template for precise hole locations and depths.
9) How do you adjust the occupancy indicator?
The indicator position is typically adjusted by rotating the exterior housing to align red/green windows correctly. Consult installation instructions for proper alignment procedure.

I buy the Schlage version frequently. The Schlage was discontinued, and this was tabbed as the replacement. It is indeed identical.
