Falcon W161S A 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a communicating exit latch and how does it work?
A communicating exit latch allows both sides of the lock to be turned simultaneously for exit. When either lever is pressed, both levers move together, enabling quick egress from either side without keys.
2) What door types and thicknesses work with the Falcon W161?
Standard door thickness is 1-3/8" to 1-3/4". Works on wood, metal, and composite doors. Verify door weight capacity and swing clearance with manufacturer specifications before installation.
3) How do I determine the correct handing for this lever lock?
Stand on the outside of the door. If hinges are on the right, it's right-hand. If hinges are on the left, it's left-hand. The W161 may be field-reversible - check installation instructions.
4) What finishes are available for the Falcon W161?
Common finishes include satin chrome, bright brass, and oil-rubbed bronze. Finish availability varies by model. Check current stock for specific finish options on this Grade 2 lock.
5) What does Grade 2 certification mean for this lock?
Grade 2 meets ANSI/BHMA standards for heavy commercial use. Provides 400,000 cycle durability and higher security than residential locks. Suitable for offices, schools, and moderate-traffic commercial applications.
6) Does this lock meet fire door and building code requirements?
Exit latches help meet egress codes requiring free exit from occupied spaces. Verify specific fire rating and ADA compliance with local authorities. Some applications may require additional panic hardware.
7) What parts and accessories are included with the W161?
Typically includes both levers, latch assembly, strike plate, and mounting hardware. Installation template and instructions included. Verify complete parts list upon delivery.
8) What are the basic installation requirements?
Requires standard 2-1/8" cross bore and 1" edge bore holes. Use manufacturer template for precise hole placement. Standard 1-1/8" x 2-1/4" mortise for latch face plate.
9) How do I maintain and adjust this communicating lock?
Regular cleaning with mild soap prevents dirt buildup. Lubricate pivot points annually with light machine oil. Check that both levers operate smoothly and return to horizontal position.
10) What other Falcon models are similar to the W161?
Browse other Falcon cylindrical locks for different functions. W-Series offers various lever styles and functions including passage, privacy, and keyed entry options.
11) Can this lock handle high-traffic environments?
