PDQ Pull Plate with 1" Flat Straight Pull

PDQ 86 Series Commercial Pull Plates

PDQ 86 Series pull plates combine a 0.050 inch plate with an attached pull handle, giving the pull side of a door a solid grip point while protecting the door face from hand contact. Plates come in 3-1/2 x 15, 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inch sizes, paired with round straight, flat straight, cast or ADA H3 pulls.

PDQ makes its push plates and pulls in brass, bronze and Grade 304 stainless steel. Pull plates are typically specified on the exterior or pull face of a single-acting door and are often paired with a matching PDQ 96 Series push plate on the opposite side.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a push plate and a pull plate?
A push plate is a flat plate with no handle, mounted on the side of the door that is pushed open. A pull plate, such as the PDQ 86 Series, combines a plate with an attached pull handle so the door can be gripped and opened from that side.

Are PDQ pull plates ADA compliant?
PDQ offers the H3 pull with 2-1/2 inch hand clearance for accessible operation. PDQ notes that ADA/ANSI A117.1 guidance places pulls at 42 inches above the finished floor, with a minimum 4 inch clearance between the pull and the door stile.

PDQ 8625C630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I get the PDQ 86 Series pull plate with a 1 inch flat straight pull in bright brass on a 6 x 16 inch plate?
No. On the 86-FSP, the 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inch plates are made only in 630 satin stainless steel. The brass and bronze finishes (605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze) and 628 satin aluminum are limited to the 3-1/2 x 15 and 4 x 16 inch plates. If you need brass on a wider plate, you will have to drop to the 4 x 16.
2) Which plate size should I pick for a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
The 3-1/2 x 15 inch plate is the narrowest of the four 86 Series sizes and is the one to look at where stile width is tight. The 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inch plates need progressively more flat face width, so they suit hollow metal, wood or composite doors with a full-width face rather than a narrow storefront stile. Measure your stile and leave room for the fastener line before committing.
3) Will this PDQ pull plate work on a door that also has a deadbolt or a thumbturn?
Yes, if you order the prep. The 86-FSP requires a Prep for Locking Hardware selection and the choices are None, Cylinder Prep or Thumbturn Prep, so the plate comes with the cutout already in it rather than you drilling a finished plate on site. Pick None only if the door needs no locking hardware behind the plate.
4) I need an ADA compliant pull, is the 1 inch flat straight pull the right one?
For accessible operation PDQ offers the H3 pull with 2-1/2 inch hand clearance, which is a different pull option in the 86 Series than the 1 inch flat straight. PDQ cites ADA/ANSI A117.1 guidance placing pulls 42 inches above finished floor with a minimum 4 inch clearance between the pull and the door stile. If accessibility is on the drawing, specify the H3 version rather than the flat straight.
5) What pull center-to-center spacings does the PDQ 86-FSP flat straight pull come in?
Two: 6 inch CTC and 8 inch CTC, and both are offered on all four plate sizes (3-1/2 x 15, 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inches). The CTC is what you match if you are replacing an existing pull and want to reuse the same through-bolt holes in the door, so measure hole center to hole center before you order.
6) Does the PDQ 86-FSP pull plate mount with screws or through-bolts?
Mounting is a required choice on this pull plate: Type 1 through-bolt for metal, composite or wood door, or Type 12 through-bolt for the same door types with a decorative head. The plate itself is attached with #6 x 5/8 inch combination head Phillips sheet metal screws. Through-bolting is what carries the pulling load, so it is the right call on any door seeing real traffic.
7) What goes on the push side when I use a PDQ 86 Series pull plate?
A pull plate goes on the pull face of a single-acting door, and PDQ's matching push plate is the 96 Series, ordered in the same finish for the opposite side. The pull plate alone only equips one face, so budget two pieces per opening if the door needs both a grip point and face protection where it gets pushed.
8) Does handing matter when ordering a PDQ 86 Series pull plate?
Yes. Handing is one of the selections made when ordering the 86-FSP, along with mounting type and locking hardware prep. It matters because the cylinder or thumbturn cutout has to land on the correct side of the plate relative to the door's lock edge, so establish the door's hand before you place the order.
9) How do PDQ 86 Series part numbers break down, like 8625C630?
Each configuration gets its own number built from the series, plate size, CTC and finish. In 8625C630, 86 is the series, the plate-size digit 2 is 3-1/2 x 15 inches (3 = 4 x 16, 5 = 6 x 16, 6 = 8 x 16), C is the 6 inch CTC pull (D is 8 inch) and 630 is satin stainless steel. So 8665D630 is the 8 x 16 inch plate with an 8 inch CTC pull in satin stainless.
10) How thick is the PDQ 86 pull plate and what is it made of?
The plate is 0.050 inch thick. PDQ makes its push and pull hardware in brass, bronze and Grade 304 stainless steel, so the 630 satin stainless versions are the ones to specify for restrooms, kitchens and other wet or high-cleaning environments where brass finishes will not hold up.
11) Is a pull plate enough for a restroom door, or do I need a lock?
On doors that do not need locking, the 86 Series pull plate is the complete hardware for the pull face, which is why it is commonly used on restrooms, storage rooms, interior doors and one-way traffic doors. If the opening does need to lock, the plate can be ordered with cylinder or thumbturn prep so the locking hardware passes through it.
