Metallics MHC24 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size range does the Metallics MHC24 hose clamp cover?
The MHC24 adjusts over a 1-1/16 to 2 inch clamping range, so one part covers everything from small flex to 2 inch OD runs instead of stocking a separate clamp per size. Set the band to the actual outside diameter of what you are clamping, not the nominal trade size.
2) Will the MHC24 fit 1-1/2 inch conduit?
Yes on outside diameter grounds. Trade size 1-1/2 rigid or EMT runs under 2 inches OD, which falls inside the clamp's 1-1/16 to 2 inch range. For 2 inch trade size the OD exceeds 2 inches, so you need the next larger band size.
3) Is the Metallics MHC24 clamp zinc plated steel or stainless?
It is zinc plated steel (St-Zn). That is a coated carbon steel band, fine for dry indoor and protected locations. For wet, washdown, coastal or corrosive areas, specify a stainless band clamp instead.
4) Can I use a worm drive hose clamp like the MHC24 to support electrical conduit?
A worm drive band clamp like the MHC24 grips around a round object and tightens with a screw driver or 5/16 hex driver. It is commonly used to band flexible conduit, cable bundles or hose to a post, rail or strut, not as a code listed conduit support by itself. Where the inspector wants a listed conduit support, use a one hole or two hole conduit strap sized to the trade size of the raceway and keep the band clamp for banding and bundling duty.
5) Does the MHC24 hose clamp come with a mounting screw or bracket?
It is the clamp band and worm screw only. Nothing is included for attaching it to a surface, so if you are banding to a strut, post or stud, order your own bracket, strap or standoff separately.
