Spears CPVC CTS Residential Compact Ball Valve, Socket Connection

The Spears CPVC CTS Residential Compact Ball Valve is a quarter-turn shutoff valve built in CPVC CTS (Copper Tube Size) material for direct compatibility with residential CPVC piping systems. Its compact residential profile makes it well suited for tight installation spaces such as under sinks, at fixture supply lines, and in mechanical rooms, while the socket connection ends allow for a clean, solvent-welded joint directly into existing CPVC CTS piping runs. As a dedicated ball-valve style shutoff, it provides reliable full-flow open/close control for residential water supply lines.

Key Features

Spears CBV-0750-S – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I replace a brass ball valve in a CPVC line with this one?
Only if the run is CPVC CTS pipe on both sides and you have enough pipe length to cut in socket joints. The Spears CBV has socket ends, so it glues to CPVC pipe, it will not thread onto a brass nipple. If the old valve was threaded into transition fittings, you either keep those fittings and use a threaded valve, or cut them out and glue CPVC pipe into this one.
2) What sizes does the Spears CBV residential ball valve come in?
Two: 3/4 inch, ordered as CBV-0750-S, and 1 inch, ordered as CBV-1000-S. Both are socket end. 3/4 inch covers most branch and fixture runs in a house, 1 inch is the typical main trunk size coming off the meter or water heater feed.
3) Socket or threaded ball valve for a CPVC repipe, which should I use?
These Spears CBV valves are socket only, meaning solvent welded. That is the joint you want on a CPVC potable line, it becomes one continuous piece of pipe and there is no thread sealant to fail. Threaded ends make sense when you need to take the valve back out, or where you are transitioning to a metal fitting. If you want the option of removing the valve later on a socket installation, glue in a union on one side.
4) What else do I need to install a Spears CPVC socket ball valve?
The valve itself is the only hardware. Beyond that you need CPVC primer and solvent cement rated for CPVC (not standard PVC cement), a square cut on the pipe, and the burr cleaned off the end so the pipe seats fully in the socket. Cure time before pressurizing depends on the cement manufacturer's chart for the pipe size and ambient temperature.
5) Is this a full port valve or will it restrict flow?
Spears describes the CBV as providing full-flow open/close control, so in the open position it is not acting as a restriction on the line. It is a shutoff valve, not a throttling valve, run it fully open or fully closed rather than part way.
