Width across corners is 0.34 in., which is what matters if you are driving in a tight corner or inside a box. The head also has a slot (0.05 to 0.06 in. wide, 0.057 to 0.072 in. deep), so a flat blade works when a driver will not reach.

Type A is for a pre-punched or pre-drilled hole in thin sheet metal. The JDS169V has a gimlet (sharp) point that pierces and forms its own thread as it goes, with 12 threads per inch, but it will not drill its own hole through steel the way a self-drilling point does. For thin gauge sheet, wood blocking, or soft materials where you can start a pilot, this is the screw. If you need to go through heavier gauge with no pilot, use a self-drilling point instead.
