The Metallics JTSF39 is a #10 x 3 in. Type A tapping screw with a gimlet point. The gimlet (sharp, tapered) point and coarse 12 threads per inch are made for thin sheet metal, sheet metal to wood, and similar soft-material work where the screw forms its own thread in a pilot hole. For thicker steel you want a Type B or self-drilling point instead, since a Type A point is not built to tap heavy gauge.
