Klein Tools 65510 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What socket sizes come in the Klein Tools 65510 socket set?
The 65510 set includes nine 12-point sockets: 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8 and 15/16 inch. All are SAE fractional sizes, so there are no metric sockets in the set. A 5/8-inch spark plug socket, a ratchet and a 5-inch (127 mm) extension round it out, packed in a hinged metal box.
2) Will the Klein 65510 sockets fit my existing 1/2-inch drive torque wrench or breaker bar?
Yes. Every socket, the extension and the ratchet in the 65510 set use a 1/2-inch square drive, so they interchange with any 1/2-inch drive torque wrench, breaker bar, impact-rated adapter or flex handle you already own. If your other tools are 3/8-inch drive, you will need a step-down adapter, which is not part of this set.
3) Can I use these sockets on an impact wrench?
No. The 65510 is a hand socket set with a ratchet, and hand sockets are not rated for impact use. Running them on an impact wrench or impact driver risks cracking the socket. Use impact-rated black-oxide sockets for powered work and keep this set for hand ratcheting and torque wrench work.
4) Are these sockets 6-point or 12-point?
All nine of the sockets in the Klein 65510 set are 12-point. Twelve points give you twice as many engagement positions, which helps in tight quarters where the ratchet swing is limited. If you are breaking loose rounded or badly rusted fasteners, a 6-point socket grips the flats better and is the safer choice for that work.
5) Is the Klein 65510 a 12-piece or 13-piece set?
Both counts describe the same product. Klein calls it a 12-piece set counting the tools, nine sockets plus the spark plug socket, the ratchet and the 5-inch extension, and 13 pieces when the hinged metal box is counted. Order it as Klein Tools model 65510 either way.
6) How big and heavy is the 65510 socket set case for a service van or tool bag?
The set ships in a compact hinged metal box measuring 11.25 by 4.05 by 2.025 inches and weighing 5.37 lbs complete. That footprint drops into a van drawer or the bottom of a tool bag without taking a full shelf, and the hinged lid keeps the sockets from scattering in transit.
7) Does the Klein 65510 set include a ratchet, or do I need to buy one separately?
A 1/2-inch drive ratchet is included, along with a 5-inch (127 mm) extension, so the set is ready to work out of the box. There is no breaker bar, universal joint or torque wrench in the kit, so add those separately if the job calls for them.
8) Is a 1/2-inch drive set the right choice for electrical work, or should I go smaller?
Half-inch drive is the size for the heavier fasteners an electrician or maintenance tech hits: strut and channel hardware, transformer and panel mounting bolts, motor bases, generator and switchgear anchors. The 65510 covers 7/16 through 15/16 inch, which is where those fasteners live. For device screws, small lugs and anything under 7/16 inch, a 3/8-inch or 1/4-inch drive set is easier to swing and less likely to over-torque the fastener.
