Allied Tube & Conduit SK200RKON – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can a steel set screw EMT coupling be used in a concrete pour?
The Allied set screw coupling is concrete tight when taped, so it can be used in a poured slab provided the joint is taped per that requirement. Untaped, it is not a concrete tight fitting. For wet or raintight locations, a compression (gland) fitting is the usual choice instead of set screw.
2) Do the set screws come already installed on this 2 inch EMT coupling?
They do. Screws are pre-set and staked from the factory on the 1/2 inch through 2 inch couplings, and the 2 inch falls in that range, so nothing loose to chase on the ladder. They are tri-head screws. The larger 2-1/2 inch through 4 inch couplings in the same line use hex head screws instead.
3) Set screw or compression coupling for 2 inch EMT, which should I use?
Set screw, like the SK200RKON, is the standard indoor dry location fitting and it is faster to install because the screws are already staked in place. Compression couplings are what you move to for damp, raintight, or exposed exterior runs. For a slab pour, this set screw body is concrete tight once the joint is taped.
4) Is this 2 inch EMT coupling steel or die cast zinc?
Steel, with heavy walls. That matters on 2 inch runs where the fitting takes real weight and pulling load, and it holds up better to impact on a job site than a die cast body.
