Red Dot 2CCU – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Red Dot 2CCU flip-lid cover rated for a wet location outdoors?
The Red Dot 2CCU is suitable for use in wet locations with the cover closed. That makes it an in-use-closed cover, not an in-use-while-open enclosure, so a cord left plugged in with the lid propped open is outside what the rating covers. It carries UL file E28688.
2) Will the Red Dot 2CCU cover fit my existing outdoor 2-gang box?
The 2CCU ships with adapter plates that give 25 installation options with the 2-gang cover, which is how it adapts across different 2-gang box and device configurations. The same plate set also yields 12 installation options when used as a 1-gang cover. Match your box opening and device layout to one of the supplied plates.
3) Does this Red Dot cover meet the UL requirement an inspector will look for on an exterior receptacle cover?
The cover is UL Listed under file E28688 and is rated for wet locations with the cover closed. If the circuit feeds something that stays plugged in continuously, local code may call for an extra-duty in-use cover that is rated while open; this flip-lid is rated closed.
4) Do I need to buy adapter plates separately for the Red Dot universal flip-lid cover?
No. The adapter plates come with the cover. They are what deliver the 25 installation configurations for 2-gang use and 12 for 1-gang use, so no extra plate kit is needed to mount it. The cover is sold each.
5) Is the Red Dot 2CCU metal or plastic, and will it hold up on a coastal or poolside installation?
It is zinc die cast with a silver finish, so it is a metal cover, not plastic. Zinc die cast with the silver coating gives corrosion resistance for exterior service, including pool, spa and landscape lighting locations where the cover stays closed in use.
6) I need to standardize exterior covers across a property in one finish. What part number is the 2-gang silver version?
Order model 2CCU for the 2-gang universal flip-lid cover in silver. One model number covers the 2-gang application, and the included plate set handles the variation between boxes and devices across openings, so a single part can be stocked for mixed exterior conditions.
7) Can I use the Red Dot 2CCU as a single-gang cover if the box only has one device?
The supplied adapter plates give 12 installation options with a 1-gang cover and 25 with the 2-gang cover. Model 2CCU is the 2-gang cover, so for a true single-gang box opening you want the 1-gang version of the universal flip-lid cover rather than forcing the 2-gang body onto it.
