Viega 20743 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does "no stop" mean on the Viega 20743 coupling, and when would I want it?
A no-stop coupling has no internal tube stop in the middle, so the fitting can slide along the pipe. That is what you use for a repair or a tie-in where you cannot pull the pipe apart, since you can slip the coupling fully onto one side, bring the second length up, then slide it back and press both ends. If you are joining two free pipe ends in new work, the stop version is easier because the stop sets insertion depth for you.
2) What does Smart Connect do on a Viega ProPress coupling?
Smart Connect is a small feature in the sealing element that lets water or air weep past an unpressed joint during testing, so an unpressed connection shows itself instead of hiding behind a friction fit. On a 2-1/2 inch line with press rings, that matters, because a missed press on a large-diameter joint is expensive to find after the walls close up.
3) How do I order the right Viega 2-1/2 inch no-stop press coupling?
Order by Viega part number 20743. That number is the 2-1/2 inch copper no-stop ProPress coupling with Smart Connect; the stop version and the other sizes carry different numbers, so quoting 20743 is what keeps the correct part on the delivery.
4) Is the Viega 20743 made in the USA?
Yes, the 20743 ProPress coupling is made in the USA, which is what institutional and government jobs with domestic sourcing language on the spec usually need documented.
