Viega 20829 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What connections does the Viega 20829 ProPress adapter have?
The Viega 20829 is a 3 inch press by 3 inch female pipe thread adapter (P x FPT). One end presses onto 3 inch copper tube, the other takes 3 inch male NPT thread. It is not a press-to-press coupling, so if both sides of your run are copper tube you need a different fitting.
2) Is the Viega 20829 press adapter copper or bronze?
Copper. The 20829 is a copper-body ProPress adapter, so it is intended for copper tube systems rather than as a bronze or brass transition fitting.
3) What is Smart Connect on this Viega adapter and why does it matter on a 3 inch line?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the 20829 that leaves an unpressed connection deliberately leaking during pressure testing, so a joint someone missed shows itself before the ceiling closes up. On a 3 inch main that is the difference between finding one skipped press at test and finding it after drywall.
