Metallics MQDC2218M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Metallics MQDC2218M quick disconnect terminal crimp onto?
The MQDC2218M is sized for #22 through #18 AWG stranded or solid copper wire. If your conductor is #16 or larger, this barrel won't close on it properly and you need the next gauge range up in the same quick disconnect family.
2) Is the MQDC2218M the male or female half of the quick disconnect?
Male. The MQDC2218M is the male (tab) half of a 250 series quick disconnect, so it mates with a female 250 series receptacle terminal. Ordering two males leaves you with nothing to connect, so pair it with the matching female part for the same #22-#18 gauge range.
3) Can I use the Metallics MQDC2218M for low voltage control and thermostat wiring?
That's the typical use. A #22-#18 range covers thermostat cable, control wiring, and low voltage fixture leads, and the 1/4 inch male tab lets you break the connection at a device without cutting the conductor. Crimp it with a tool matched to insulated quick disconnects so the barrel grips the strands and the insulation support holds the jacket.
