It is a carbon steel fitting, which is the MegaPress line for black iron and carbon steel pipe. It is not for copper tube (that is the ProPress family) and not for stainless. If your main is 2 inch black steel pipe and you need a 1/2 inch branch, this is the matching fitting.
2) Can I use the Viega 25380 MegaPress tee on copper or PEX?
No. This is a carbon steel press fitting built for carbon steel and black iron pipe. Copper tube takes a ProPress copper fitting and PEX takes a PureFlow fitting. Pressing a carbon steel fitting onto the wrong tube material is not an approved connection.
3) What does Smart Connect do on this Viega tee, and does it change how I install it?
