1) Can I use the Viega 25475 MegaPress tee on copper or PEX?
No. The 25475 is carbon steel and the press ends are MegaPress ends sized for 2 inch carbon steel pipe. For copper you need a copper press system fitting, and for PEX a PEX tee. Using this on anything but the pipe the MegaPress end is built for will not seal.
2) Why would I pick a MegaPress tee with a threaded branch instead of an all-press tee?
The FPT branch on the 25475 is for where the takeoff lands on something threaded, a valve, gauge, drop nipple, or equipment connection, so you do not need a press by thread adapter after the tee. If the 1-1/2 inch branch continues in press-joined pipe instead, order the all-press version of the tee and skip the thread.
3) What is Smart Connect on this Viega MegaPress fitting?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the sealing element of the MegaPress fitting so an unpressed connection leaks visibly during pressure testing instead of passing inspection. It is how you catch a missed joint on a 2 inch main before the system is buried or insulated. It does not change how the 25475 is installed, only how easily a skipped press is found.
