The 25605 is a press-to-female-thread adapter fitting: P x FPT. The 1-1/2 inch side is a MegaPress press connection that goes onto carbon steel pipe with a press tool and jaw, and the 1/2 inch side is a female pipe thread you screw into. No welding or threading of the 1-1/2 inch pipe end is needed.
2) Can MegaPress carbon steel fittings like the 25605 be used on copper or PEX?
No. The 25605 is carbon steel and MegaPress is for black iron and carbon steel pipe. For copper tube you need a copper press system (ProPress), and PEX needs a PEX press fitting. Putting a carbon steel press fitting on copper is the wrong system and will not seal reliably.
