The Viega MegaPressG 28870 is a 4 inch press fitting for carbon steel pipe. It presses onto the pipe end with a crimp tool rather than threading or welding, so the pipe end needs to be cut square and deburred, with the fitting fully seated before pressing.
2) Can I use a MegaPressG fitting on a gas line?
MegaPressG is Viega's gas-rated press system for black iron and carbon steel pipe, and the 28870 is the 4 inch carbon steel cap in that line. The standard MegaPress (non-G) sealing element is for water and other non-gas service, so the two lines are not interchangeable on a fuel gas system. Keep all fittings on a gas run in the MegaPressG family.
3) Will the Viega 28870 press cap work with copper or stainless pipe?
No. It's a carbon steel fitting sized for 4 inch carbon steel or black iron pipe. For copper you need Viega's copper press system (ProPress) and for stainless you need the stainless press line, both of which use different sealing elements and jaw profiles.

A cap closes off the open end of a pipe permanently, typically to terminate a stub-out, cap a future branch left for expansion, or dead-end a run during phasing.
