Generac GEN-6343 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Generac 6343 power inlet box used for?
The 6343 is a 30 amp aluminum power inlet box that mounts on an exterior wall so a portable generator can be plugged in from outside the building. The generator cord lands at the box instead of being run through a window or door, and the box feeds the interior wiring behind it. It is UL Listed.
2) Is the Generac 6343 inlet box rated for outdoor mounting in the weather?
Yes. The 6343 box is weatherproof and weather resistant, so it is made to be mounted on an exterior wall where it takes rain and sun. Property managers should note the enclosure can be painted to match the siding or trim colour, which matters on multi-family and HOA exteriors.
3) Does the Generac 6343 come with a generator cord or a transfer switch?
No. The 6343 is the inlet box alone. A complete backup setup still needs a 30 amp generator cord to match the inlet, plus a transfer switch or interlocked panel on the inside so generator power is isolated from utility power. Order those separately.
4) Is a power inlet box like the Generac 6343 the right choice, or should I just run an extension cord from the generator?
Use the inlet box when you want the generator to feed the building's own circuits. Extension cords only power whatever is plugged directly into them and force you to leave a door or window cracked for the cord. The 6343 gives a permanent weatherproof exterior connection point, wired back to a transfer means inside, so the generator can run hard-wired loads like a furnace blower or well pump.
5) What is the exact Generac part number for the 30 amp aluminum inlet box?
Generac manufacturer part number 6343, sold as model 6343. That is the number to quote for a 30 amp aluminum power inlet box when matching an existing installation across a portfolio of buildings.
