Metallics PT34GR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why would I order gray electrical tape instead of black?
Gray is a phase and identification color. Colored vinyl tape like the PT34GR is used to mark conductor phases, circuit identification, and voltage classes so an electrician reading the panel or a junction box later can tell what is what. The black roll is what you reach for when you only need insulation and jacketing.
2) Is the Metallics PT34GR gray tape suitable for electrical work or is it just a marking tape?
It is an electrical-department vinyl tape at 6 mil, the same build as general-purpose insulating tape, so it both insulates and color-codes. Many crews buy a set of colors in this 3/4 inch by 60 foot size and keep gray on the truck for phase marking while using it as working tape on the same splices.
3) How do I order the gray Metallics tape by part number?
Order it as Metallics PT34GR. That single part number covers the 3/4 inch by 60 foot gray 6 mil roll, so there is no size or color option to specify separately.
