1) Will the Philips 35W T8 LED tube work with my existing high output ballast, or do I have to rewire?
The Philips 35T8/96 InstantFit tube is a ballast-driven lamp, so it runs off the existing instant start ballast with no rewiring. What decides it is the ballast output: the lamp needs 280 to 410 V and draws between 160 and 260 mA, at an operating frequency of 50000 to 64000 Hz. If your ballast puts out in those ranges, it drops in. If you are on a magnetic ballast or the output falls outside that window, this is not the lamp for that fixture.
2) Can I put the Philips 35W LED tube on a dimmer?
No. The 35T8/96 is a non-dimmable lamp. On a dimming circuit you will get flicker, no dimming range, or premature failure. For a space that needs dimming control, specify a lamp rated for it or move the control to the fixture level.
3) Will this Philips T8 LED tube hold up in an unheated warehouse or a parking garage in winter?
Ambient operating range runs from -20 C to 45 C, which covers an unheated warehouse, a covered parking deck, and most loading dock areas in a cold climate. Storage tolerance is wider, -40 C to 65 C, so stock sitting in an unconditioned storeroom is fine. Above 45 C ambient, in a boiler room or an uncooled high bay under a hot roof, you are outside the rating.
4) How many of these 35W LED tubes do I need to match the light level from my old 8 foot fluorescent lamps?
Each Philips 35T8/96 tube puts out 4200 lumens at 120 lm/W. Count lumens rather than lamps when you plan the swap: total the rated output of what is in the fixture now and divide by 4200. Beam spread is 180 degrees, so all of that output goes downward out of the fixture rather than half of it bouncing off the reflector, which is why a lumen for lumen swap usually reads brighter on the floor than the numbers suggest.
5) Will 4000K on the Philips LED tube match the lamps already in the rest of my building?
4000K cool white is the neutral commercial white most offices, corridors, and retail floors are lit at, so it will read consistent alongside existing 4000K lamps. Color consistency is under 6 SDCM, meaning tube to tube variation stays tight enough that a row of them will not show a visible color spread. CRI is 82. If your other areas are lamped at 3500K or 5000K, this will show a noticeable difference at the boundary between spaces.
6) Should I do an InstantFit ballast compatible tube or rewire the fixtures for direct wire LED?
An InstantFit lamp like the 35T8/96 is the fast path: the lamp runs on the existing instant start ballast at 280 to 410 V, so a maintenance tech swaps lamps with no electrician, no fixture disassembly, and no relabeling. The tradeoff is that the ballast stays in the circuit and remains a failure point, and when it dies you are back in the fixture. Direct wire removes the ballast permanently and drops the fixture wattage further, but it is licensed electrical work on every fixture.
