1) Will a 3/8-16 x 2 in. socket head cap screw thread into a standard 3/8-16 tapped hole or nut?
Yes. The Metallics JSHC382 is a 3/8 inch diameter screw with 16 threads per inch in the UN (Unified National) thread form, which is the standard coarse 3/8-16 pitch, so it mates with any 3/8-16 tapped hole, nut, or insert. Overall screw length is 2 inches.
2) Is a socket head cap screw stronger than a Grade 5 or Grade 8 hex bolt for hanging equipment?
Stronger, yes. The alloy steel JSHC382 carries 180,000 psi minimum tensile and 162,000 psi minimum yield, which exceeds equivalent-size Grade 5 and Grade 8 hex head cap screws, and because it is internally wrenched it needs less surface area or counterbore around the head. Grade 8 hex bolts are rated 150,000 psi tensile and Grade 5 at 120,000 psi, so this is a step up on both counts.
