Watts LFUSG-B-M2 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and type of connections does the Watts LFUSG-B-M2 mixing valve use?
All three ports on the LFUSG-B-M2 are 3/8 inch compression, hot inlet, cold inlet, and outlet alike. That is the standard undersink supply-stop connection, so it drops into a lavatory or sink supply run without adapters if you are already on 3/8 compression risers. If your stops or risers are anything other than 3/8 compression, plan on adapters.
2) What temperature can I set a Watts LFUSG-B-M2 point of use mixing valve to?
Adjustable from 80 to 120 degrees F, and it leaves the factory set at 105. Accuracy at the outlet is plus or minus 7 degrees F, so if you are targeting a hard ceiling for scald protection at a lavatory, set the dial with that tolerance in mind and verify at the faucet with a thermometer.
3) Will a 3/8 inch thermostatic mixing valve keep up with a lavatory faucet, or do I need a bigger valve?
The LFUSG-B-M2 flows 0.25 to 2.25 GPM, with 2.25 GPM its rated capacity. That covers a single lavatory or kitchen faucet, which is what a point of use valve under one fixture is for. Serving several fixtures off one valve, a gang restroom, or a shower group is beyond this range, and that job wants a larger master or group mixing valve on the branch instead.
4) What water temperature and pressure does the Watts LFUSG-B-M2 need to work correctly?
Feed it hot between 120 and 180 degrees F and cold between 39 and 80 degrees F. It needs at least 30 psi static pressure, and the hot and cold supplies must be within 25 percent of each other on pressure, so an unbalanced system will make the outlet wander. It also needs at least a 5 degree F difference between the hot supply and your setpoint, which is why a 120 degree setpoint off a 120 degree tank will not hold. Maximum working pressure is 150 psi.
5) Is the Watts LFUSG-B-M2 lead free for potable water?
Yes, the body is lead free brass and the valve is designated lead free, which is what you need on a potable domestic water line. It is also flagged Buy American Act compliant with USA origin, which matters if you are buying for a government or federally funded project.
6) Does the Watts LFUSG-B-M2 have a cold water bypass?
No cold water bypass on the LFUSG-B-M2. Everything leaving the outlet passes through the thermostatic element, so you cannot draw straight cold through it. If your fixture needs full cold flow independent of the mix, keep the cold run to the faucet separate and put this valve only on the tempered leg.
7) Why does my tempered water drift when the toilet flushes or another fixture runs?
Check the pressure balance between hot and cold. The LFUSG-B-M2 holds its setpoint when the two supplies stay within 25 percent of each other on pressure and static pressure is at least 30 psi. A flush that drops cold pressure past that window will move the outlet, and outlet accuracy is plus or minus 7 degrees F even under good conditions. Correcting the supply imbalance fixes it, not re-dialing the valve.
8) What part number do I order for the Watts LFUSG-B-M2, and what does it look like installed?
Order it as Watts LFUSG-B-M2, manufacturer part number 204143, in the LFUSG-B series. The finish is rough bronze, an unpolished body meant to live under a lavatory or in a cabinet rather than be seen.
