1) What conductor size will the 3M 8428-12 cold shrink insulator fit?
The 8428-12 is sized for 500 to 800 kcmil conductors (300 to 400 mm2), single conductor, on either aluminum or copper. Outside that range you want a different tube size in the 8428 family, because the shrink range is what holds the seal.
2) Will a 3M 8428-12 cold shrink tube go over my connector and still shrink down tight?
It loads at 1.937 in (49.2 mm) inside diameter and recovers to 0.949 in (24.1 mm). Anything the tube must pass over, including the lug barrel, has to clear under 1.937 in, and the connector itself can be no longer than 8.0 in (203.2 mm). If your compression connector is longer than that, the 12 in tube will not leave enough grip on the cable jacket at both ends.
3) Do I need a torch or heat gun to install the 3M 8428-12?
