3M 7100006140 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What fire rating does 3M Fire Barrier Composite Sheet CS-195+ achieve?
CS-195+ composite sheet is rated up to 4 hours. That covers most through-penetration firestop requirements on rated walls and floors in commercial construction, which is the application it is built for.
2) Can I use this composite sheet to firestop a large cable tray penetration?
That is exactly what it is for. The CS-195+ four-component intumescent system is intended for larger openings such as cable trays and conduit, and the sheet can also be installed as an intermittent fire break along horizontal or vertical cable tray runs rather than only at the wall or floor penetration.
3) Will firestopping a cable tray with this sheet cause the cables to overheat and need derating?
The CS-195+ sheet is thermally conductive, so heat built up around the cables can escape through the barrier instead of being trapped at the penetration. 3M calls that out specifically as reducing derating issues, which is the usual objection electricians raise to sealing a loaded tray.
4) What sheet sizes does the CS-195+ come in?
Two sizes: 28 in x 52 in (MPN 7100006140) and 36 in x 24 in (MPN 7100011414). Pick the size that covers your opening with the fewest seams; the material cuts and forms with common trade tools, so odd-shaped openings are handled by cutting the larger sheet.
5) If we add cables later, can the firestop be opened back up?
Yes. The composite sheet is re-enterable, so it suits retrofit and new work where cabling gets added or pulled later. Re-seal the penetration after the change so the rating is maintained.
6) Is 3M CS-195+ composite sheet watertight?
No. CS-195+ is not a watertight seal. It is a fire and smoke barrier: in a fire the intumescent forms a hard char that seals the penetration against flame spread, smoke and toxic gases. If the penetration also needs water or air sealing, that has to be handled with a separate product.
7) What does the CS-195+ sheet look like once installed, and where is it made?
It is a silver-faced sheet form product, made in the United States. The foil face is what you see on the wall or floor after installation, so it reads as a finished firestop on inspection walkthroughs.
8) Is there regulatory or ingredient documentation available for 3M CS-195+ for our submittal package?
3M publishes a regulatory data sheet for the CS-195+ composite sheet through its ingredient communication portal, which procurement and safety reviewers can pull for submittals and facility chemical records.
