1) Is 3M FP-301 heat shrink rated for 600V circuits?
Yes. FP-301 carries a UL bug rating of 600 volts at 125 C (257 F), under UL file E-39100. The black version is flame retardant. Note that the clear version of FP-301 is not flame retardant, so for 600V work where flame retardance is called out, stay with a colored stick like this black one.
2) Will 3M FP-301 meet a military or aerospace harness spec?
FP-301 is built to SAE-AMS-DTL-23053/5, Class 1 in all colors, and the flammability rating is the UL 224 all-tubing flame test. It is also CSA Certified and RoHS 2011/65/EU compliant without exemption. If your drawing calls for Class 2, that is the clear version, not this black stick.
3) How hot does the gun need to be to shrink FP-301 tubing?
Minimum shrink temperature is 100 C (212 F), so a standard electric heat gun handles it easily. Once installed, the polyolefin tubing runs continuously from -67 F to 275 F (-55 C to +135 C), which covers engine bays, outdoor panels, and cold storage.
4) Is thin-wall heat shrink like FP-301 the right choice, or do I need adhesive-lined dual-wall?
FP-301 is single-wall thin-wall polyolefin, no adhesive liner. It gives mechanical, insulating, and abrasion protection for wire harnessing, bundling, wire marking, strain relief over splices, and component packaging, but it does not seal out moisture. For a direct-burial, marine, or wash-down connection you want a dual-wall adhesive-lined tubing instead. For panel work, control wiring, and terminations inside an enclosure, thin-wall is what gets used.
5) Will 3M FP-301 tubing corrode the copper or tinned terminals it covers?
No. FP-301 is listed non-corrosive, so it can be shrunk directly over copper conductors, tinned lugs, and electronic components without attacking the metal. Tensile strength is 2400 psi, which is what lets it take handling and pull-through in a harness without splitting.
