It raises the device 7/8 inch out from the box so the device sits flush with the finished wall surface, and it adds 5 cubic inches of volume to the box.
2) Will the 405-B ring fit a standard 4 inch square junction box?
Yes. The 405-B measures 4 inches by 4 inches and is made to sit on the face of a standard 4 inch square box, lining up with the box's two device ears. It is a one gang ring, so it covers the box and leaves a single device opening.
3) How much drywall thickness does the 7/8 inch raised ring cover?
The 405-B has a 7/8 inch rise, so it is the one to use where the wall finish in front of the box is close to 7/8 inch, for example double layer 1/2 inch drywall or drywall over furring. For a single layer of 1/2 inch board, a 1/2 inch rise ring is the closer match, and for a flush surface a flat ring.
4) Does the 405-B ring add to the box fill calculation?
It does. The ring carries 5 cubic inches of its own volume, which you add to the box volume when you run a box fill count for conductors, devices and clamps.
