Length is the whole point. Factory device screws are short and bottom out when the box sits back behind thick drywall, tile, panelling or a deep plaster ring. The 1-1/2 inch JRM82W spans that setback so the device still pulls up tight to the plaster ring. If your box is flush with the finished wall, a short screw is the right part instead.

They take either a #2 Phillips or a flat blade. The head is a combo recess, slotted and Phillips in one, with a #2 driver size called out. The slot is 0.039 to 0.048 inch wide and 0.051 to 0.068 inch deep, so a standard cabinet-tip flat blade seats fine if you have no Phillips on you.

The heads are painted white specifically to blend with white plates and trim, so they disappear on a standard white device cover far better than a bare zinc screw. Under the paint the screw is zinc-finished steel, so the shank is still corrosion-protected.

Head width runs 0.24 to 0.26 inch and head height 0.091 to 0.103 inch. That is a round (domed) head, not flat or oval, so it seats on top of the plate surface rather than countersinking into it. If you need a screw that sits flush in a countersunk hole, a round head is the wrong profile.

The JRM82W is rated at 60,000 psi minimum tensile with a hardness of Rockwell B70 to B100, made from AISI 1006 to 1022 low carbon steel. That is standard low carbon machine screw strength, fine for devices, plates, brackets and light hardware. For structural or high load joints you want a graded cap screw, not a low carbon machine screw.

The JRM82W is flagged as both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant in the product data, which is what a government, school or healthcare procurement file usually needs on a fastener line item.

These are zinc-plated carbon steel. Zinc plating handles indoor and normally dry conditions well, but it is not a stainless screw, so sustained wet, coastal or washdown exposure will eventually rust it. For those locations specify a stainless machine screw in the same 6-32 x 1-1/2 size.

They come in a jar, with a minimum order of 100 count. That is the usual way a service van or MRO crib stocks device screws, so you are buying a jar rather than a handful.

The Phillips recess is specified at 0.149 to 0.162 inch diameter with a depth of 0.056 to 0.084 inch and a gaging penetration of 0.045 to 0.073 inch. A properly sized #2 bit seats to depth in that recess. Combo heads do have a shallower effective recess than a pure Phillips because of the crossing slot, so ease off the clutch on a driver rather than running it wide open.
