Viega 78252 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) The seal in my ProPress fitting is black - is that the EPDM one?
Yes. Viega colors its ProPress sealing elements by compound, and the 78252 is the shiny black EPDM element in the 1 inch size. Black EPDM is the standard element for potable water and hydronic service. A green element is the HNBR compound for fuel and oil applications, so if you pull a green ring out of a fitting, this black EPDM part is not the correct replacement.
2) Is this the d-version or the FKM/HNBR version of the Viega 1 inch sealing element?
The 78252 is the d (version) connection type in EPDM. If your spec calls for a different Viega sealing compound, that is a separate part number, not a variant of this one. For MRO stocking, note the part is made in China.
3) What Viega part number should a facility stock for 1 inch ProPress seals?
Part number 78252, the 1 inch EPDM ProPress sealing element in shiny black. That is the manufacturer part number to put on a purchase order or a stockroom bin label.
