Viega 79850 ProPress reducer Smart Connect technology Zero Lead Bronze, 1-1/2'' x 1/2''

The 79850 is an FTG x P reducer, so one end is a fitting end (FTG) sized to slip into another 1-1/2 inch press fitting's socket, and the other is a 1/2 inch press socket that receives tubing. That matters on the job: the large end is not a socket, so you cannot press 1-1/2 inch tube into it. It goes into the cup of an existing 1-1/2 inch ProPress fitting, then you press 1/2 inch tube into the small end.

Yes, in two pieces rather than one. The 79850 handles the 1-1/2 to 1/2 inch step itself, but because the big end is a fitting end it has to land inside a 1-1/2 inch ProPress coupling, elbow or tee rather than directly on the tube. Plan the takeoff that way and you save stacking two separate reducing bushings.

It's a Zero Lead bronze body, which is what you want on potable water. Bronze also pairs it to copper systems without a dissimilar metal concern the way a plain brass or ferrous fitting might raise.

Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: a joint left unpressed will leak visibly during pressure test instead of passing quietly and failing later. On a multi-story riser with dozens of 1/2 inch branch takeoffs, that's how you find the one connection the crew missed before the walls close.

Order it as Viega 79850. It's manufactured in Germany. Distributors and procurement buyers standardizing a ProPress fitting kit should spec the 79850 specifically, since the adjacent reducers in the family differ only by the size pair and the end configuration.
