The JDS154SS is 18-8 stainless, and fastening stainless parts to aluminum or steel can set up a galvanic couple that corrodes the softer base metal in some environments. If the base metal is aluminum and the location is wet, an isolating washer or a matching-metal screw is the safer call.

The JDS154SS is a Type A tapping screw with a gimlet (sharp) point, so it forms its own thread as it drives. In thin sheet metal it will start on its own; in heavier gauge stock a pilot hole sized to the screw's root is still the right practice.
