Viega 84920 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Should I use a 45 degree street elbow or a regular 45 elbow?
Use the street version, like the Viega 84920, when you need to offset directly out of another fitting's socket. Its FTG end plugs into that socket, so you save a cut piece of pipe and a second press. A standard 45 with two press sockets is what you want mid-run, where pipe enters from both sides. Street elbows also tighten up a rolling offset in a joist bay where there is no room for a nipple.
2) Do I need to thread or weld anything to install the Viega MegaPress 84920?
No threading, no welding, no open flame. Both ends are press connections, so you cut and ream the 1-1/4 inch carbon steel pipe, mark your insertion depth, seat the fitting and crimp with a press tool and the correct 1-1/4 inch MegaPress jaw. That is why these get specified for occupied buildings where a hot work permit is a problem.
