Viega 91675 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe sizes does the Viega 91675 MegaPress tee connect?
The Viega MegaPress tee 91675 is a reducing tee sized 2 inch x 2 inch x 1-1/2 inch. The run is 2 inch on both ends and the branch outlet is 1-1/2 inch, so you can take a 1-1/2 inch branch off a 2 inch main without adding a separate reducer. All three ends are press connections.
2) Can I use a MegaPress stainless tee on carbon steel pipe, or is it only for stainless?
Model 91675 is built from 316 stainless steel, which is the material used for stainless press systems on stainless pipe. Match the fitting material to your pipe material; a 316 stainless fitting is specified where corrosion resistance or a stainless piping system is called for, not as a substitute for the carbon steel MegaPress fittings.
3) How do I know a MegaPress joint actually got pressed before I fill the system?
The 91675 carries Viega's Smart Connect feature, which is what lets an unpressed connection show itself during pressure testing instead of after the walls close up. On a tee like this that is three separate joints to verify, so walk each end before you sign off on the test.
4) How much clearance do I need around a 2 x 2 x 1-1/2 inch MegaPress tee in a tight chase?
The fitting measures 7.646 inches long, 4.283 inches wide and 2.894 inches high, and weighs 2.045 lbs. Lay that out before committing in a chase or above a hard ceiling, because you also need swing room for the press jaw on each of the three ends, not just the fitting body.
5) Is a stainless press tee worth it over carbon steel for my building, or am I paying for nothing?
Material is the deciding factor, not the press method. 316 stainless is the grade you pick when the line sees moisture, washdown, coastal air, or a fluid that would attack carbon steel, so it shows up in food service, healthcare, and exposed mechanical rooms. If the pipe you are tying into is carbon steel in a dry interior setting, the carbon steel MegaPress line is the matching fitting and the stainless is overspecified.
