Viega 95285 MegaPress coupling With stop Smart Connect technology 304 stainless steel, 1/2'' x 1/2''

Viega part 95285 is a MegaPress coupling with stop, 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch, with press connections on both ends (P1 x P2). It joins two runs of 1/2 inch pipe in line. It is not a branch fitting, so if you need to take a 1/2 inch branch off a run you need a press tee instead.

The stop is an internal shoulder in the middle of the coupling that each pipe end butts against, so insertion depth is set for you on both sides. That is what you want for a normal joint between two new pipe ends. A coupling without a stop (a slip coupling) is the one to use for a repair in a fixed run, where you have to slide the fitting along an existing pipe to position it. The 95285 is the version with the stop.

MegaPress is the press system for black, galvanized and carbon steel pipe, and the 95285 is built in 304 stainless steel. The stainless body is the fitting material, not a restriction on the pipe it presses. For stainless pipe systems Viega uses its own separate stainless press lines, so match the fitting family to the pipe you are running.

Smart Connect is a feature of the sealing element that lets an unpressed connection leak intentionally when the system is pressure tested. During fill and test, any joint you skipped shows itself instead of hiding until the wall is closed. It does not replace walking the run with the press tool, but on a multi-joint 1/2 inch retrofit it is the fastest way to catch a miss.

That is the point of it. Pressing a 1/2 inch joint takes a cut, a clean and deburr, a mark to insertion depth, and a few seconds in the jaw, with no threading dies, no cutting oil, and no hot work permit. On occupied buildings, healthcare, and anywhere a torch means a fire watch, that is usually the deciding factor over a threaded or welded repair. Each pressed joint is permanent and cannot be taken apart, so set the coupling where you want it before you squeeze.

The 95285 body is 304 stainless, and the sealing element sits between the fitting and the pipe at the joint. 304 is the common corrosion-resistant grade for press fittings and the standard choice on MegaPress runs. Where the surrounding environment is aggressive (coastal, chemical, wash-down), specifiers typically step up to 316 instead of 304.
