Viega 98335 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does FTG x P mean on the Viega 98335 MegaPress reducer?
FTG x P describes the two ends. The 3 inch end is a fitting end (FTG), sized like pipe so it slips into the press socket of another fitting, and the 2 inch end is a press socket (P) that goes over the pipe. So the 98335 reduces 3 inch down to 2 inch while letting you come straight off another MegaPress fitting on the large side rather than needing a stub of 3 inch pipe.
2) What is Smart Connect on this Viega MegaPress reducer?
Smart Connect is the feature built into the sealing element that intentionally leaks a little at an unpressed connection during pressure testing, so an installer can spot a joint that got missed before the system is charged. On a 3 inch x 2 inch reducer buried in a header that is the difference between finding the miss at test and finding it in a finished ceiling.
