American Standard Bathroom Faucet Metal Pivot Rod - AMS-66118

The pivot rod is the horizontal metal rod that runs through the back of the pop-up drain body and connects to the clevis strap on the lift rod. Push the lift rod down and the pivot rod pushes the stopper up. It is the part that fails when a sink stopper stops sealing or stops lifting. American Standard sells it as repair part 066118-0070A.

Two different symptoms. A stopper that will not hold position or will not lift usually means the pivot rod is bent, worn at the ball, or has dropped out of the clevis, and rod 066118-0070A fixes that alone. A drip at the back of the drain body is the pivot ball seal and retaining nut, not the rod. If you have both, replace the rod and reseat or reseal the ball nut; if the drain body itself is corroded through, the rod will not save it and you want a complete pop-up assembly.

No finish is correct for this part. The pivot rod sits behind the drain body inside the cabinet, so it is never seen and American Standard does not plate it to match a faucet finish. You do not need to match it to chrome, brushed nickel, or bronze trim above the deck. There is one version, 066118-0070A, and it is the same rod regardless of the faucet finish you have.

What you get is the pivot rod itself, part 066118-0070A. The clevis strap, the spring clip that pinches onto it, and the pivot ball retaining nut are separate pieces. If your existing clevis and clip are intact, reuse them, the new rod slides straight through. If the clip is sprung or the clevis holes are wallowed out, plan on those too, because a good rod in a worn clevis will still slip.

Metal, not plastic. For a property manager or MRO buyer stocking a repair cart, that matters: the pivot rod takes the whole force of someone shoving the lift rod down, and it is the part that bends or snaps first in high-traffic restrooms. A metal rod is the one to keep on the shelf if your buildings run American Standard lavatory faucets. Order it by part number 066118-0070A.
