American Standard M970117-0020A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the American Standard M970117 cartridge cover fit any American Standard faucet?
No. American Standard uses several valve platforms across its kitchen, lavatory, and tub/shower lines, and covers are specific to the valve they were built for. Match the part number to your faucet's parts diagram before ordering, since M970117-0020A is a single dedicated part and there's no universal fit here.
2) Is the M970117 a replacement faucet cartridge or just the cover?
Just the cover. It's the trim sleeve that sits around the cartridge, sold as a standalone piece. A maintenance tech rebuilding a leaking faucet needs the cartridge and usually the seats and springs as well; order those separately and add this only if the original cover is pitted, cracked, or missing.
3) I manage apartments with a lot of chrome American Standard faucets. Is it worth stocking this cover?
Only in small numbers. Covers rarely fail on their own, they get damaged during handle removal or lost during a rebuild. The parts that turn over in a multi-family portfolio are cartridges, aerators, and handle screws. Keep a couple of M970117-0020A covers on the shelf for the chrome faucets it matches and buy cartridges by the box.
