American Standard 028699-0070A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is American Standard part 028699-0070A used for?
It's a transfer coupling, an adapter-type faucet repair part from American Standard. It joins the transfer connection on a faucet assembly rather than being a finished, visible trim piece. Order it by the manufacturer number 028699-0070A when you need the coupling itself and not a full valve or spout replacement.
2) Is the American Standard coupling for transfer a complete transfer valve, or just the connector?
Just the connector. It is a coupling and adapter part within the American Standard repair parts family, not a diverter or transfer valve cartridge. If water is not switching between the tub spout and the shower head, that is usually the valve internals, and this coupling won't fix it.
3) Does the American Standard transfer coupling come in chrome or brushed nickel to match my faucet?
No. The coupling is supplied unfinished, with a single NO FINISH option and no plated variants. That's not a problem for the job, since it is an internal repair part rather than exposed trim, so it won't need to match the chrome or nickel on the rest of the faucet.
4) How big is the American Standard 028699-0070A coupling, and will it fit in a tight vanity cabinet?
Stated dimensions are 10.433 x 4.1 x 1, with a weight of 0.181. The 1-unit figure is the slim side, so clearance under a vanity is driven by the longest dimension, just over 10. Measure the run between your supply connection and the faucet body before you commit, since a rough-in shorter than that won't take it.
5) Can maintenance staff use this transfer coupling on commercial restroom faucets, or is it residential only?
American Standard classifies it simply as a repair part rather than splitting it into residential or commercial duty, so there is no restriction either way. The deciding factor is the faucet itself: confirm the transfer coupling on the model you're servicing calls for 028699-0070A, then it works the same in a multi-family unit or an institutional washroom.
