It extends the rough-in depth of a single-control pressure-balance shower valve by an additional 3/4 inch. If the valve body ended up set too deep in the wall for the trim to seat against the finished surface, this kit's hardware makes up that gap so the escutcheon and handle mount correctly.

It is made for use with trim kits for American Standard R110 or R120 series rough valves, on a single-control pressure-balance assembly. It is not a universal extension kit for other brands or other valve platforms.

If the valve is an American Standard R110 or R120 pressure-balance rough valve and it's set up to 3/4 inch too deep, yes, this kit is the intended fix. Beyond 3/4 inch of shortfall it won't make up the difference, and in that case the valve body itself has to be reset.

This is an extension kit only. It supplies the hardware that adds 3/4 inch of rough-in depth to the valve, and it's used together with your American Standard trim kit for an R110 or R120 rough valve. The trim (handle, escutcheon) and the valve body itself are separate purchases.

It does, because part of the kit hardware ends up visible or in contact with the trim once the escutcheon is mounted. The kit is offered in chrome (M961818-0020A) and brushed nickel (M961818-2950A), so order the one that matches the shower trim.

If the existing valves are American Standard R110 or R120 pressure-balance rough valves, adding this kit at each opening buys back 3/4 inch, which covers a typical layer of backer and tile without opening the wall or moving the valve. Order the kit in the finish that matches the trim, chrome or brushed nickel, and confirm the added wall thickness is 3/4 inch or less.
