Slip-on. The 22650 slides over the copper stub-out and locks with a setscrew, so there are no threads on the spout to mate with a nipple. If the existing spout in the wall unscrews off a threaded nipple, this one is the wrong style for that rough-in and you want a threaded tub spout instead.

It is built to pair with many American Standard shower trim kits, which is the usual reason a property manager reaches for it: the finish and styling line up with trim already on the wall. Match the finish to what is installed, chrome, brushed nickel, or legacy bronze. What it will not do is change your rough-in requirement, the stub-out still has to be plain copper for the slip fit.

A diverter spout is what you need when the tub and shower run off a single valve with no separate diverter handle. Pulling the knob on top of the 22650 sends water up to the showerhead. If your valve body already has a three-handle setup or a separate diverter, you want a non-diverter spout, because two diverters in one line fight each other.

Three finishes, one part number each: chrome is 022650-0020A, brushed nickel is 022650-2950A, and legacy bronze is 022650-2780A. Order by the full suffix, the base 022650 alone will not get you the right finish on a standardized building.

Yes, that is the point of the slip-on design. Back off the setscrew underneath, pull the old spout off the copper stub, slide the 22650 on, and tighten. No soldering, no wall access, no valve work. It is sold as a repair part, so it goes on an existing rough-in rather than starting a new one.

It depends on stub length, not on the spout. A slip-on spout needs enough exposed copper inside the wall fitting to engage the internal O-ring and land the setscrew, and the 22650's 5.688 inch projection is measured from the wall face, so it tells you nothing about how much pipe is behind it. If the stub is cut too short, the fix is repiping the stub, not a different spout.
