American Standard M962623-2240A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the American Standard M962623 Townsquare part, and what does it do?
It's the lift rod for American Standard Townsquare widespread lavatory faucets, the vertical rod that rises behind the spout and pulls the pop-up drain stopper open and closed. It is a replacement rod only, not a complete pop-up drain body.
2) Will the Townsquare M962623 lift rod fit my centerset or single-hole American Standard faucet?
No. This rod is specified for Townsquare widespread lavatory faucets, the three-hole configuration with separate spout and handles. A centerset or single-hole faucet, even another Townsquare, uses a different rod length and linkage, so order the rod called out for that specific faucet instead.
3) What finishes does the Townsquare lift rod come in, and how do I order to match my faucet?
Two finishes: polished chrome, part number M962623-0020A, and oil rubbed bronze, part number M962623-2240A. Match the finish code to your faucet, since the rod is the one piece of the drain linkage that sits above the deck in plain view.
4) My sink stopper won't stay up. Do I need a whole new pop-up drain or just the lift rod?
If the rod itself is bent, stripped at the threads, or the finish has failed, this Townsquare replacement rod handles it and you keep the existing drain body. If the stopper is not sealing or the horizontal pivot rod is worn, the fault is in the pop-up drain assembly rather than the lift rod, and replacing this part alone will not fix it.
5) Does the M962623 lift rod come with the clevis strap and screw to connect to the pivot rod?
It is sold as the lift rod itself. Plan on reusing the existing clevis strap, spring clip, and pivot rod from the drain already in the sink, and order those separately if they are worn or missing.
6) Can I swap this Townsquare lift rod without pulling the faucet or the sink?
Yes. The rod drops out from the top through the spout body once you loosen the clevis screw underneath, so you work from above the deck and reach under only to release and re-clamp the clevis. The faucet and the drain body stay in place.
