American Standard 752506-0020A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the American Standard 752506-0020A shower drain kit connect to IPS or to a solvent-weld drain line?
IPS only. The 752506-0020A is built for a threaded iron pipe size connection, so it screws onto an IPS drain line. If the rough-in under the base is PVC or ABS waiting for a solvent-weld or compression style drain body, this is the wrong kit and you'll need a drain matched to that connection instead.
2) Is this American Standard drain kit for a shower base or can it be used in a tub?
The 752506-0020A is a shower base drain assembly, and American Standard lists it for shower and tub applications. It is a drain kit, not a waste-and-overflow, so for a standard bathtub you still need an overflow assembly; the kit covers the drain connection itself.
3) I manage apartments and need to replace a leaking shower drain. Is this the whole assembly or just the strainer?
It's the full drain kit, not a replacement grate alone. American Standard's 752506-0020A is sold as a drain assembly for a shower base with an IPS threaded connection. Before ordering for a unit, pull the existing strainer and confirm the body under the pan is threaded iron pipe size rather than a glued plastic drain.
