1) Does the American Standard Serin tub and shower trim kit include the rough-in valve?
No. The Serin TU064502WDXH is trim only, so you get the shower arm and flange, the metal wall escutcheon with the red/blue indicator ring, the metal lever handle and the metal slip-on diverter tub spout. The valve body has to be ordered separately: this trim is made for American Standard Flash shower rough-in valves. If the wall is already open, get the Flash rough-in on the job before you close it up.
2) Can I use this Serin trim on a shower-only wall with no tub?
Not as supplied. The kit ships with a slip-on diverter tub spout, and on a pressure balance tub/shower trim the spout is what diverts water up to the head. Drop the spout and there is nothing to divert with. For a shower-only opening, order an American Standard shower-only trim kit instead.
3) My hot and cold supplies are reversed behind the wall. Can I still use this valve trim?
Yes. The double ceramic pressure balance cartridge behind this Serin trim has back-to-back capability, so hot and cold can be reversed quickly without repiping the supplies. That is the usual fix in back-to-back bathrooms where one side comes in mirrored.
4) Does the Serin pressure balance trim protect against scalding when a toilet is flushed?
That is what the pressure balance cartridge is there for. A ceramic balancing spool holds output temperature steady when relative hot and cold supply pressure changes, so a flushed toilet or a started dishwasher does not spike the shower. There is also an adjustable hot limit safety stop that caps how much hot water can mix in, which is what you set during commissioning in multi-family or hospitality work.
5) Will the escutcheon cover the hole left by the old trim plate?
The Serin kit uses a metal wall escutcheon with a red/blue indicator ring, sized to the American Standard Flash rough-in valve it mounts to. If you are replacing a different brand's valve, the existing valve body will not accept this trim and the plate is not sized to hide that opening. Trim swaps only work when the rough-in underneath is a Flash valve.
6) What finish does the Serin TU064502WDXH tub and shower trim come in?
Chrome, ordered as TU064502WDXH.002. That is the only finish offered on this Serin trim kit, so if you are matching brushed nickel or bronze fixtures elsewhere in the bath you will need a different Serin trim number.
