American Standard A912705-0070A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is American Standard part A912705-0070A used for?
A912705-0070A is an American Standard spout seal, a faucet repair part. It seals the joint where the spout meets the faucet body, so it is the part you replace when a faucet leaks or weeps at the base of the spout rather than from the aerator or the handles.
2) My American Standard faucet leaks from under the spout when I turn it on. Is this the right repair part?
That symptom points at the spout seal, and this is the American Standard spout seal, part A912705-0070A. Water escaping around the base of the spout, especially when the spout swivels, means the seal has hardened or torn. A drip from the aerator or from a handle is a different repair, cartridge or stem side, not this part.
3) Will the American Standard A912705 spout seal fit any brand of faucet?
No. It is an American Standard repair part and should be ordered against an American Standard faucet. Spout seal diameters and groove depths are model specific, so a seal from one manufacturer will not seat correctly in another maker's spout, even when the two look close in hand. Identify your faucet model first.
4) Is the American Standard spout seal a finished trim part, or does the finish matter when ordering?
Finish does not come into it. The spout seal is ordered as NO FINISH because it is a sealing component that sits inside the faucet body where it is not visible, so one part covers a chrome, brushed nickel or bronze faucet alike. Match the faucet model, not the finish.
5) Should a property manager stock American Standard spout seals for maintenance?
They are a reasonable shelf item if your units run American Standard faucets. Spout seals are a wear part, they fail on their own schedule across a building, and a seal swap is a far shorter call than a faucet replacement. Order the part number that matches the faucet family you standardized on, here A912705-0070A.
6) Does the American Standard spout seal come with any other faucet repair parts?
It is sold as the spout seal alone. If the spout has been off the faucet for a while or the faucet is older, plan on inspecting the cartridge or stem and any O-rings on the spout shank at the same time, since those are separate parts and not included here.
