American Standard 2574102.011 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Studio 2574102 tub have a right-hand or left-hand drain?
Right-hand outlet. Standing at the front of the tub looking in, the drain and overflow are at the right end, so the supply rough-in and waste line have to come up on that side. If your existing waste is on the left, this is the wrong version of the Studio tub for that opening.
2) What does "above floor rough" mean on this 60 x 32 Studio bathtub?
It means the waste connection is made above the subfloor rather than requiring the drain assembly to be dropped through and joined below. That matters on slab construction and on upper-floor remodels where you cannot get under the deck to make the connection. If your plans call for a below-floor rough, the drain height on this tub will not match.
3) Is this American Standard Studio tub meant for a three-wall alcove or a freestanding install?
Alcove. It has an integral three-sided tiling flange, which only works when the tub is enclosed by walls on three sides with the apron facing out. The flange gets fastened to the studs and the surround or tile laps over it. There is no finished back or ends, so it cannot be set freestanding or drop-in.
4) Do I need a separate apron or skirt panel with this tub?
No. The apron is molded as part of the tub body, so the front face arrives finished and there is no separate skirt to order or trim. You still buy the drain and overflow assembly and the tub filler separately.
5) What colors does the Studio 60 x 32 apron tub come in?
Two: White (2574102.02) and Arctic (2574102.011). Both are high-gloss. Arctic is American Standard's cooler-toned white, so if you are matching an existing toilet or lav in a multi-unit building, pull the color code off that fixture before you commit to a fleet order.
6) Does this tub need a mortar bed or shims under it?
The bottom is pre-leveled from the factory, so it sits flat on a level subfloor without building up a mortar bed to set the pitch. Check your subfloor for level first; the tub is only as true as what it lands on.
7) How much does the tiling flange stand up, and how do I detail it against the wall board?
The flange is a 1 inch integral water-retention flange running the three enclosed sides. Set the tub, fasten through the flange into the studs, then bring your backer board down over the face of the flange so water sheds onto the tub deck rather than behind it. Caulk the tile-to-tub joint, not the flange.
8) Is this Studio bathtub slip resistant enough for rental or hospitality units?
The bathing well has a textured floor molded in to reduce slipping, so you are not relying on stick-on treads that tenants peel off. For a multi-family or hotel rotation, the textured surface is part of the tub and cannot wear off as a separate coating.
