American Standard Times Square 1.75 gpm/6.6 L/min Shower Trim Kit With Water-Saving Showerhead, Double Ceramic Pressure Balance Cartridge With Lever Handle - AMS-TU184507

Trim only. The Times Square TU184507 kit gives you the showerhead, shower arm and flange, brass wall escutcheon, metal lever handle and the double ceramic pressure balance cartridge. The in-wall valve body is a separate order, and this trim is made for American Standard Flash shower rough-in valves. Order the rough-in with the trim on new construction or you will have a finish kit with nothing to mount it to.

The showerhead is rated 1.75 gpm / 6.6 L/min maximum, which American Standard describes as a 30 percent water saving. That flow rate meets the 1.8 gpm ceiling used in water-efficiency specs for multi-family and hospitality retrofits. Head face is 3-1/4 inches (80 mm) with two spray functions.

No re-pipe needed. The double ceramic pressure balance cartridge in the Times Square trim has back-to-back capability, so hot and cold can be reversed quickly at the cartridge. That is the common fix on back-to-back bathroom stacks in apartments where the supplies land on the wrong sides.

It has an adjustable hot limit safety stop that caps how much hot water can mix with cold, which is how you dial in a maximum outlet temperature at each fixture. The ceramic balancing spool also holds output temperature steady when a toilet flushes or another fixture draws, so the shower does not spike. Together those are the two features a facilities spec normally asks for on scald protection.

The Times Square TU184507 trim is listed for shower and tub applications, but the kit itself ships with a showerhead, arm and flange only. If the opening has a tub spout, that spout is ordered separately and the rough-in has to be the diverter type that feeds it.

Chrome, ordered as TU184507.002. That is the single finish offered on this trim, so if you are standardizing a building on brushed nickel or matte black you will need a different Times Square trim number.

The balancing spool is ceramic, and American Standard states ceramic is unaffected by mineral deposits and harsh water conditions. The mixing side is a ceramic disc valve for drip-free operation. Both sit in a single one-piece cartridge, so when maintenance does come up your tech pulls and replaces one part rather than servicing a mixer and a balancer separately.

Integrated check valves are built into the Times Square TU184507 trim specifically to eliminate cross flow, so you do not need separate inline checks at the valve for that purpose.

A metal lever handle. Levers are the type most accessibility specs call for because they can be worked without grasping or twisting, which matters on senior housing and ADA-sensitive unit turns. The escutcheon behind it is brass.
