The Townsend base is a 60 x 36 inch nominal single threshold base, but the actual footprint runs larger than nominal: 65.125 inches long by 41.5 inches wide, 5 inches high. That extra material is the integral 3-sided 1 inch tiling and water retention flange, which sits behind the wall board. Frame your rough opening to the actual 65.125 x 41.5 dimension, not to 60 x 36, or the flange has nowhere to go.

No drain is included with the Townsend 6036SM. You order the drain assembly separately and size it to the trench outlet. What does come in the box is the removable, color matched trench drain cover, so you are buying the working drain body and trim, not the visible grate.

Left-hand outlet describes where the trench drain discharges when you stand outside the shower facing the threshold: the waste connection is at the left end. That is fixed, it is not reversible in the field, so the base has to be matched to where your existing waste line runs. If your drain line comes up on the right of the alcove, this is the wrong version and you want the right-hand outlet variant of the same 6036SM base.

The tiling flange is built in. Three sides of the Townsend base carry an integral 1 inch tiling and water retention flange, so backer board laps over the flange and tile comes down over that. No add-on flange kit, no separate dam. The fourth side is the threshold, which stays open.

The base stands 5 inches high overall, which is the curb a user steps over once the base is set on a level subfloor. Single threshold means one curbed side, the entry, with the other three sides flanged for tile against the walls. If you are specifying for accessibility, a 5 inch step is a conventional curb, not a low-threshold or barrier-free pan.

American Standard classifies the Townsend 6036SM as a residential product, so it suits apartments, condos, and single-family remodels rather than heavy commercial washroom duty. The surface is fungi and bacteria resistant, stain and impact resistant, and UV resistant, which holds up in an in-unit bathroom. For a fleet standardization program across units, note the outlet hand is fixed per unit, so you will be ordering both left- and right-hand versions unless every stack is plumbed the same way.
