American Standard 5020B65G.222 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the American Standard 5020B65G seat be installed without getting behind the bowl?
Yes. It is a top-mounting seat, so the hardware is set from the top of the bowl rather than reaching underneath to tighten nuts. That matters on close-to-wall installs and in tight commercial stalls. Both top and bottom mounting hardware come in the box.
2) Does this American Standard seat come off for cleaning without tools?
It does. The Easy Clean hinge releases with a lift, so the seat and cover come off the bowl for cleaning around the hinge posts and rim, then drop back on. No tools, no unbolting. For housekeeping crews cleaning a lot of fixtures that is the main reason to spec it.
3) Will this seat stop shifting side to side like the cheap ones do?
The 5020B65G uses American Standard's Ever-Tite locking hinge system, which is built specifically to keep the seat from working loose and sliding side to side after install. That is the recurring callback on budget seats in rental units, and it is what this hinge addresses.
4) Is the American Standard 5020B65G rated for commercial restroom use?
It is classified as a residential product. For apartments, hotel guest rooms, and single-family turns it is a fair fit, but for a high-traffic public restroom you generally want a commercial-grade open front seat instead.
5) What is the American Standard 5020B65G seat made of, and does it resist bacteria?
The seat and cover are molded polypropylene plastic with an EverClean antimicrobial surface treatment. Polypropylene holds up to standard bathroom cleaners better than painted wood seats, which is why it is the usual choice for multi-family turns.
6) Does the lid slam on the American Standard 5020B65G?
No. Both the seat and the lid are slow-close, so they lower under damped control rather than dropping. On multi-unit properties that cuts the noise complaints and the cracked-lid replacements.
