American Standard Ultima Selectronic Exposed Toilet Flush Valve, Diaphragm Type, Battery, 1.28 gpf/4.8 Lpf - AMS-6247121

It's built for flushometer bowls with a 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) exposed top spud. If your bowl has a back spud or a smaller spud size, this isn't the valve for that opening. The tailpiece is adjustable, so there is some room to absorb rough-in variation between the supply and the bowl.

Either side works. The valve can be installed left- or right-handed, and the adjustable tailpiece gives you flexibility on the rough-in, so you don't need to specify handing when you order.

No hardwiring. The Ultima Selectronic 6247121 is battery operated and ships with a CR-P2 lithium battery rated for about 4 years at 4,000 uses per month. That makes it a practical retrofit where there's no electrical rough-in at the fixture.

There's a fully mechanical manual override button on the valve that flushes it without any power at all. So a dead battery means the sensor stops working, not that the fixture goes out of service until maintenance arrives.

It flushes at 1.28 gpf (4.8 Lpf), which is the high efficiency water closet rate. Pair it with a bowl rated for 1.28 gpf. If your bowls are older 1.6 gpf units, the lower volume may not carry the trapway the way the bowl was engineered to.

Diaphragm type. The diaphragm uses American Standard's EvoLast material, which is chlorine- and chloramine-resistant to resist premature deterioration, worth knowing if you're on a municipal supply running heavy chloramine treatment that chews up standard rubber diaphragms.

Run-on usually comes from a clogged refill orifice. The Ultima uses DynaClean, an integral wiper spring that scrubs the refill orifice on every flush to keep it clear. That's the specific failure mode this valve is designed around, which matters in high-use restrooms where a running valve is both a water bill and a service call.

Detection range is adjustable, either manually at the valve or with an optional remote control. Useful in narrow stalls or where a partition or door swing sits inside the default sensing field and causes phantom flushes. The remote is sold separately.

The case for the Ultima Selectronic is hygiene and consistency: nobody touches the valve, so it cuts a shared contact point, and the valve flushes every time rather than relying on the user. The tradeoff versus a manual flushometer is battery service, and this one runs roughly 4 years per CR-P2 at 4,000 uses a month, with a mechanical override so a dead cell doesn't take the fixture down. In a low-traffic back-of-house restroom, a manual handle valve is simpler to maintain.

The 6247121.002 is the chrome version, and chrome is the only finish this valve is built in. The valve body uses a proprietary brass alloy that resists dezincification, which is the failure where zinc leaches out of the brass in aggressive water and leaves the casting porous and weak.
