American Standard 735216-400.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the American Standard 735216-400 tank cover the lid only, or does it come with the tank?
Lid only. The 735216-400 is a replacement porcelain tank cover for an American Standard VorMax toilet with a 12-inch rough-in, so it's what you order when the original lid cracked or got dropped and the tank itself is fine.
2) Will a VorMax tank cover fit my toilet if it has a 10-inch or 14-inch rough-in?
No. This cover is matched to the VorMax models built for a 12-inch rough-in, and tank lids are model-specific porcelain, not a universal part. If your VorMax sits on a 10-inch rough, you need the lid for that tank, not this one. Measure from the finished wall to the center of the closet bolts to confirm which rough-in you have.
3) What color does the VorMax 735216-400 tank lid come in?
White only, part number 735216-400.020. American Standard's .020 suffix is the white finish code, so if the rest of your fixture is bone or linen, this lid will not match.
4) Do I need any tools or hardware to install a replacement VorMax tank lid?
Nothing extra. A tank cover simply sets on the tank rim, and the 735216-400 ships with American Standard's EZ-Install tools. There's no gasket, bolt, or fastener to buy alongside it.
5) How do I make sure I order the right American Standard tank lid for my toilet?
Lift the existing lid and read the number molded inside the tank, then match it to the tank the cover is built for. This one is the VorMax 12-inch rough cover, ordered as 735216-400 (white, .020). Lids from other American Standard families won't seat correctly even when the tank looks the same size from the outside.
6) Does an American Standard tank lid have any antimicrobial coating for a high-traffic restroom?
Yes, the VorMax cover carries American Standard's EverClean antimicrobial surface, which inhibits growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew on the glaze. For a property manager or facility buyer replacing lids across a building, that's the same surface treatment as the original tank, so the finish behaves consistently.
7) Will replacing just the lid affect my toilet's WaterSense rating or flush performance?
No. The VorMax flush is driven by the rim channel and the valve inside the tank, and the cover is not part of the water path. The VorMax platform meets EPA WaterSense, and swapping a broken lid for the correct 12-inch rough VorMax cover leaves that untouched.
