1) Will the Brinks Mendocino keyed entry knob fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or does it need a 1-3/4?
Both work. The Mendocino keyed entry ball knob fits standard doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick, which covers typical interior slabs and standard exterior residential doors alike. No spacer kit or thickness option to select.
2) Do I have to know the backset before ordering this Brinks knob?
No. The latch is 4-way adjustable and covers both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch backsets, so one part fits either bore layout. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore hole if you want to confirm, but either measurement is handled out of the box.
3) Is the Brinks Mendocino ball knob handed? I have doors swinging both directions.
It's reversible. The same knob installs on a left-hand or right-hand door, so you can buy one part number for every opening in the building and sort handing at the door. That matters if you're stocking a truck or standardizing across a set of units.

If you're cutting a fresh door, you'll need a bore kit and a chisel for the latch face and strike mortise, which are not included.
6) My existing strike plate has rounded corners in the jamb. Will the Brinks strike drop into that mortise?
The strike supplied is a round corner full lip type, so it drops into an existing round corner jamb prep without re-chiseling. If your jamb is prepped square corner, you'll need to square the mortise or reuse the square strike already in the frame.
7) Is this a knob you can lock from outside with a key, or just a privacy knob?
Keyed entry. It locks and unlocks from the exterior with a key, and it's built with pick, bump, and drill resistance plus an anti-pry shield. That's the function you want on a front, side, or garage-to-house door, not a passage or privacy set.
8) I manage several units and want one key to work all the doors. Can these Brinks knobs be keyed alike?
Each Mendocino keyed entry knob ships with 2 keys to its own cylinder, so out of the box a set of them will not share a key. Keying alike across a group of doors is a locksmith operation on the cylinders after purchase, not an ordering option here.
9) Will a ball knob work for an accessible entrance?
No. This is a round ball knob, which requires grasping and twisting. If the opening has to meet accessibility requirements for operable hardware, choose a lever handle cylindrical lockset instead of a knob.
